Here's just a few reasons to hire a doula.
Better Birth Outcomes
Women who utilized a doula in labor saw a significant reduction in the use of pain medication and in augmentation drugs such a Pitocin. They also reported less pain, higher rates of breastfeeding success, and an increase in positive feelings towards their newborn in the immediate postpartum. The presence of a doula is also linked to lower cesarean rates, lower preterm birth rates, and overall lower costs. According to a 2016 publication by NPR, the presence of a certified doula could reduce a families' labor costs by nearly $1000, and that's just in the delivery room.
As your doula, I make it my mission to provide up-to-date evidence-based information on common birth procedures, newborn care practices, and care recommendations for pregnant and postpartum women. I provide you with the tools you need, so that you can make the decisions that are best for your family unit, and feel confident that you are making informed care decisions that align with your preferences.
Support for the Whole Family
As a labor doula, I support you and your birth partner, providing information and comfort measures that allow them to work as a unit and relieving the pressure on the birth partner to "do it all" themselves during labor. As your doula, I will also gladly take the role of birth partner, if no other partner is present.
As a sibling doula, I work strictly with your family's older children, providing age-appropriate birth education, childcare throughout the birth, and resources to help transition them into a new role in the family.
As a postpartum doula, I help within the home during the first few weeks and months, performing light household tasks, helping with meals, newborn care, sibling care, sleep routines, and general organization to make your family's transition as seamless as possible.
At every level I work for you and your family, whether you are a family of 10 or a family of 2, promoting the exceptional bond that forms with the addition of a new family member.
